Sigma Theta Psi Alpha Chapter was founded at San Diego State University in May 1993 by Lisa Marie Almanza, Matilda Casas, Liz Jennifer Melendez, Liza Mizele Muñoz, Claudia Silva, and Bacilisa Vasquez. Our six Founding Sisters sought to bring a multicultural organization to our campus with the pillars of honesty, loyalty, respect, open-mindedness, leadership, and academic excellence. Not only did they find an organization that recognized the above values, but they also found a strong sisterhood within Sigma Theta Psi that celebrated them whole-heartedly for who they were as women. We continue to welcome
women who honor Sigma Theta Psi's six pillars into our everlasting sisterhood.
